Heart of Florida Paint Out Pics

Ellie Blair paintingHOFL paint out was a blast! Above Gainesville artists Ellie Blair paints like a snug bug from the back of her truck. Can you see the distant cows? The weather varied up to 40 degrees in a day, wind, rain, and ..........perfection.
Charles Dickinson paintingHere St. Augustine artist Charles Dickinson paints among rare white poppies.
Evinston wildflowersHow do you capture an expanse of wild flowers in a photo?

Two wonderful artists stayed with me: Robin Popp and Elisabeth Ferber. Guess what? I never took their pictures!

I love this paint out. Anyone who requests a place to stay, gets one. Two dinners and all breakfasts and snacks on the run are provided. Artists living in the area Gary Borse and Jean Tyson opened their homes for food and fun on the remaining nights. Teamwork and camaraderie par excellence.

p.s. Thank you to all who wrote comments. Just got too swamped to respond individually. I love reading them!

Nancy- sounds like it was a fantastic experience. I'm Jenkins Green with envy!
I hope you'll post more about this artistic camaraderie.
There must be so much to learn when you paint with other artists. I haven't done that since art school decades ago!

If it's hard to imagine photographing a field of white flowers, I think it's even harder to paint one!

I'm actually taking my very first plein air workshop of my life, here on St. Croix next week with a visiting painter/art teacher. Five days, all day.
I have no idea what I'll do- he's an oil painter, I'm an acrylic painter and he specializes in landscapes and I've never done one.
Face your fears, they say.
I'll be posting about it and taking photos.

I've found so much inspiration from your blog in your previous workshop experiences- it's given me the propulsion to try something new.

Hi Bonnie
Like you, I love sharing info by blogging.
I have painted acrylic en plein air; it's a challenge. Keep a spray bottle with water and retarder handy for spraying the tops of your paint piles. It's really challenging to keep what you have mixed wet. Try some mediums. Golden makes good ones. The color shift on drying makes me nuts though.
Work small! Cut around trees and such instead of trying some large blended areas.
You can find my acrylics in one of the archive galleries.

Nancy,
Your friend Bonnie might like gouache as an alternative to acrylic. I used gouache for two paintings at the HOF paint out and it works very well as a plein air medium.
Love,
Linda

Nancy- thanks so much for the support and advice and the gracious mention again on your blog.
You are a most generous artist and blogmistress!
I use a wet palette from Masterson that I wrote about in an earlier post that really keeps acrylics wet for a very long time. I will bring a spray bottle ( thanks for the reminder ) and just utilize this experience for whatever I can get out of it.

And Linda- I so appreciate the benefit of your obvious skills ( your landscapes are elegantly sensational ) and recommendations. Your blog offers so much information, visually and culinarily!
Thank you both so much.
I feel as though I've stumbled on to the good sorority in the best school!
And I know how busy you both are- I'm grateful for the input.
